Set Your Expectations-Learn to Fail Forward-Position Yourself for Success
Remember what leaders do best. You need to believe it before you will achieve it. A look at the lives of leaders in almost any field also reveals a common theme. Whether it's a leading scientist, educator, movie personality, or leader of industry, you'll find all of them had positive expectations. What we used to call daydreaming, experts now call positive imaging or visualizing. Really visualizing means more than thinking YOU can achieve a goal or objective, it means believing it, seeing and feeling yourself accomplishing your goals and objectives. You need to see it, feel it and believe it before you can achieve it.
Picture yourself, see and feel yourself achieving your goals, hiring others to work for you, bringing in new business and more. Whatever you choose for your positive visualizations, the important thing is to develop a system that works for you, a system that allows you to incorporate these goals into your thoughts, your emotional wiring, your beliefs. I spend time with each client helping them develop a goal setting visualization system that works for and with them because it is critical to empowerment, confidence and success. You need to develop a personal system that reaffirms your position strengths, your positive expectations. A system that empowers you, engages you and allows positive ideas to flow and to help you maintain a powerfully positive attitude.
Become the captain of YOUR ship. Your attitude creates YOUR environment.Your attitude helps create the kind of environment where you and others make positive decisions. Good posture, a spring in your step, a firm handshake, a confident look in your eye, a good sense of humor and comments revealing a positive outlook can all help you project your internal positives to the world. Learn to fail forward. We are living in a whole new world where the sheer velocity and volatility of change means that we will all fail at times. Start using not only your successes but your failures to recognize and act on opportunities. Build your self-esteem to levels that propel success.
Send yourself positive messages throughout the day. Become your own best friend. Use your self talk, humor, what you read, any visual or cognitive tool that speaks to you to build your self esteem, confidence and elevate your mood. Acknowledge your mistakes and downfalls, but start seeing them with different eyes, eyes that allow you to fail forward, to find the silver lining, the learning that can take you forward.
Celebrate very win, no matter how small. It isn't the size of the triumph that counts; it is keeping small victories and good things about yourself and others top of mind that counts. Carpe diem, starting seeing your glass as half full rather than half empty.
