If you are working in a culture, a business environment where you cannot express what you really think, suggestions and ideas that you feel would be beneficial, or share concerns that are important to you and to the health and wealth of the organization you work for the FRUSTRATION can be palpable.
In a relationship economy, in a personal, professional and business arena of unprecedented change, challenge, competition and stressors it is our ability to develop PEOPLE-CENTRICITY, our ability to build relationships with others that will help us succeed, or not.
So what? So how do you tell your boss that management by walking around WBWA, was not coined by management guru Tom Peters to give the boss and even tighter reign on his staff, micro manage, or butt into other people's business, but to add people-centricity to his day?
So, how do you train your boss, your colleagues to listen to you with open ears, rather than a polite or impolite look that tells you that the words you are speaking are not heart, you opinion is not validated as important, your voice is shut down?
How do you get past a boss, a culture, an environment where the juke box playing has a selection of three hits?
1) My way or the highway
2) Be happy in the box, just do it the way it has always been done.
3) Don't make waves, or the tsunami will kill your chances of promotion or success.
You find a way to open the ears of the selectively deaf, in a way that validates the box for them...Stayed tuned for tomorrow's posting Opening the Ears of the Selectively Deaf!
And, if you have a selectively deaf boss, colleagues who are frustrating you, post and share, or email me confidentially at irene@justcoachit.com and I will create a success tip for you anonymously!
